Bob & Jenny's Cross Country Adventure
Thousands of lakes and streams dot the huge
6-million acre Adirondack Park. Forty-six of the peaks are over 4000 feet in elevation. You might have heard of Lake Placid, host for two of the World Winter Olympics.
This is the Hudson River at its upper reaches in the Adirondacks.
Only about 53% of the land in the Adirondack Mts is privately held, and there are strict codes in an effort to preserve the pristine quality of the park.
Nice roads! Scenic at every turn.
The Adirondack Museum consists of 22 buildings, each portraying a different aspect of life in the Adirondacks. Here are three photos from the museum grounds:
(Left) Bob tests out an Adirondack chair.
(Middle) Cabin life.
(Right) Boat building...a canoe frame.
Driving south from the Adirondacks, you'll find the Catskill Mountain range. We expected to camp outside in the lower elevations and quite surprised when the road took us from the valley up to 2400 feet elevation in four short miles. A bit of a haul with the trailer in tow. You can see our trailer amongst the leaves across the lake (right).
(Below) we hiked two trails here: Sunset Point and Artist's Rock. The one-mile trail followed the edge of the mountain with views of the Hudson Valley.
