Yummy lobster!
Freeport, Maine

146 miles and 3 hours from our last stop
Bob & Jenny's Cross Country Adventure
Long finger-like harbors and penninsulas make up the coast of Maine. If you love lobster, this is the place for you!
The LL Bean store is open 24 hours and the largest outdoors, hunting and sports store we've ever seen.
And, in a very special surprise--instead of shopping, we found ourselves dancing the Watermelon Crawl to Tracy Bird live, right there in the LL Bean store!
Or, with some luck, you might find a lobster company willing to part with a couple of live lobsters--
Bob scored a couple of 1-1/2 pounders at this company that sells a million pounds per year!
Yummy lobsters rolls (chunks of lobster meat on a bun) are sold in little roadside lobster shacks.
Hunter-gatherer Bob bravely cut the bands and threw 'em in the pot. Jenny hid but surfaced for the feast.
Tracy Bird--live at LL Bean!!!
Look closely and you'll see that the harbor is dotted with lobster net bouys.
Our campsite at Winslow Campground in Casco Bay Harbor:
This is the world's only Cribstone bridge. Made of stacked rock, which is spaced to allow the tide to move in and out without washing out the bridge.
Tips in Maine:
1) Maine drivers do not stop to let oncoming cars cross traffic. You can sit forever waiting for someone to let you turn left into a parking lot. Tip: If you park and then try to walk across the street, BAM! -- traffic comes to a screaming halt! (we were told they strictly enforce laws requiring you to stop for pedestrians crossing the street).
2) If you like to shop factory outlets, plan to stay awhile in Freeport Maine. LL Bean is huge there, Plus, there are more outlet stores than I've seen anywhere--nicely laid out (not like a strip mall). A great selection too such as Clark's shoes and Patagonia.
View of Camden, Maine, from the top of Mt. Battie. A slow drizzling rain and clouds persisted through the day. Little did we know a hurricane might be on the way!
