Bob & Jenny's Cross Country Adventure
Day 67-71
Welcome to
A great place to celebrate Bob's birthday--Epcot Center, Disneyworld.  They pinned a birthday button on him,  and all day people would randomly shout "Happy Birthday Bob!"   Made him feel like a celebrity.  We stayed at a Thousand Trails campground 9 miles away, which is free for us with our membership, so we planned ahead to have the casualties of that low bridge (our air conditioner, vents and TV antenna) replaced while staying here.  We thought a campground with over 800 sites would be a huge cement parking lot.  Surprisingly, it was more of a resort with pools, spa, grass, and lots of trees, as well as a lake!
Epcot Center at night
Nightly fireworks choreographed to music--the highlight of any visit to Epcot.
You can visit eleven countries at Epcot.  This is Germany.  Boat rides takes you through Mexico & Norway.  Canada has a wonderful movie that travels across the amazing landscapes.  The US takes you on a journey through the birth of our nation.
Fall time brings the Epcot Food & Wine fest.  Small vendors host cooking demonstrations and sample culinary delights can be purchased.   Be sure to stop by Louisiana for bread pudding--yummy!   In Italy, the men above prepared a cheese.  Super easy recipe...just need Rennet to coagulate the milk.
Our favorite ride:  Soaring.  Rows of seats rise up to an IMax type screen, which is in front and below you--creating the sensation you are hanggliding over California.  Wind blows on your face and the delightful smells of citrus, pine, etc, whiff up as you cross the groves of S. Cal and Sierra Mountains.
An AWESOME experience!
A hidden gem:  Club  (?)   .  When you get thirsty, be sure to stop here.  Coca Cola samples from countries around the world.  Some delicious, a couple horribly bitter...but, hey, Italians like it.
Even the beggars are exotic here...a white ibis.
Bob enjoying the jacuzzi at our campground.
Two dips a day seemed to be helping his banged up knee.
Two nice pools at the campground--one for adults only!
Our campsite--yes, Florida has LOTS of pine trees!
A sign posted on the lake at the campground warns of Alligators.   Hmmmmm, stay in your boat!
A special treat.  Sandhill cranes strutting around the campground.
These beautiful birds stand 3-1/2 feet tall with a
wingspan of 6 feet.
Moss drapes these tall pine trees.  A windy day, the moss whips up with the breeze.
Another lake, another warning sign.  Not only alligator warnings but also unsafe water quality signs didn't deter a marathon swimmer from his workout swim--alone without support.  Hope he survived!
