Don & Cathy's beach house.
With the Gulf of Mexico in their backyard, and set on a quiet penninsula, this is truly a slice of paradise! Off the beaten path, it's the perfect getaway for total serenity and relaxation. With hiking trails, long sandy beaches, calm waters, fishing, and a nearby wildlife refuge and State Park, there are plenty of opportunities for adventure as well.
Bob trying his luck fishing out deeper in the water and got a front row seat for the frenzy. Too see video of Bob fishing with the diving pelicans:
In a feeding frenzy, the pelicans and terns were dive bombing for fish. They looked like pteradactyls!
Bob the hunter-gatherer and his prize whiting fish. Pan fried, the meat was tender and mild in flavor.
Bicycling adventure: A ferry ride to an undeveloped St. Vincent Island with Captain Joey. The island used to be stocked with exotic animals for hunting. Now, it is a wildlife refuge.
First a ride through the loose sand berms (and goat's head stickers!) Check your tires!
Once on the beach, it's an easy ride on the compacted sand....until the wind came up! Well, worth the effort though. Four miles up the beach is a trail that takes you inside to lakes where you can find nesting eagles. 260+ types of birds, alligators, and an Indian elk inhabit the island. Lots of wildlife!.
Dead Lakes. Thousands of trees died in this area when silt caused the rivers to back up. If it wasn't so windy, this would have been a great place to kayak.
Dolphins playing at St. Vincent Island
Enjoying the evening view from Don's house.
More stumps of Dead Lakes.
Calm waves & tropical blues right out their back door!
The day's catch included several catfish, a flounder, and a delicious whiting.
Beautiful seashells are easily found here.

A pellicun puts on a show for us as we watch the mesmerizing sunset.
A greatroom open-air floor plan. With three sliding door windows set in an arc, one feels like you are at the helm of a ship crossing the ocean. Off the beaten path, this is the perfect getaway.
