Bob & Jenny's Cross Country Adventure
In Atlantic City, you'll find large casinos (Trump, Harrahs, Baileys) fronted by a gorgeous teak (yes TEAK) boardwalk stretching for miles, and clean sandy beaches.
When we first entered the streets of Atlantic City, our first thought was to leave. Approaching the city from the north, are run down, poorly maintained and often condemned buildings. This is a city in great need of beautification. You can avoid this disappointment by approaching the city from the south via the cute town of Ventnor.
Bob on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. All beautiful teakwood. Walk, ride a bike, or...
...let one of these young men give you a ride!
We found quarter machines but passed when none would take a dollar bill--minimum was for $5 bills! What happened to the days of emptying the change from your purse?
This street sign reads "Park Place" street. All of the streets from the Monopoly Game were named from the streets of Atlantic City (except Marven Gardens, which is nearby).
The Boardwalk drops down to the beach in many places.
Abescon Lighthouse. Now, it is in the middle of the city surrounded by buildings!
Where Nature meets the Establishment:
Atlantic City is bordered by windmills and a large National Wildlife Refuge--the Edward Forsythe NWR. An 8-mile slow drive on dirt roads circles through a great birdwatching area. We saw many types of herons, egrets, a lesser bittern, and other new birds.
